I made it to Wednesday

December 8, 2010 at 8:21 pm

My back has been feeling a bit better after abusing it with high heels last weekend…just in time to abuse it with more high heels this weekend when I will be in D.C. for Chad’s company Christmas party for the home office in Alexandria. Since my back is feeling better, I was able to run four miles yesterday! I wrote about it on my Still Running page. I did bodypump and the elliptical today and my back isn’t screaming at me too badly, so I plan to run four miles tomorrow too if I can squeeze it in between volunteering stints at the school. I also have to pack, take the boys to karate and get things ready for my Mom’s arrival LATE tomorrow night. I have a babysitter coming for an hour to supervise the boys’ sleeping while I go pick Mom up at the airport at 10:30 pm. Then after I take the babysitter home at like 11:00 I have to get Mom all oriented with the plans for the weekend before we go to bed because I have to leave at 6:30 Friday morning to go to the airport! Definitely cutting it close there.

It has been a very busy couple of days with shopping, wrapping, shipping, laundry, packing Chad and getting him to the airport today (he has meetings in Virginia tomorrow and Friday). I still have to go to the post office and grocery store tomorrow to make sure Mom has food for the weekend. I also washed all the sheets and bathed Chewie today so he’d be fresh(er) for Grandma. As a reward he got some chew time in on the bone his fence buddy “Beau” gave him for Christmas.

Our next-door neighbors (of 15 years) are so nice. The boys took them over a box of treats a few days ago and then yesterday they gave the boys a gingerbread house kit and their black lab, Beau, gave Chewie this rawhide.

Chewie and Beau constantly antagonize each other from their respective sides of the fence, but then when they actually meet nose to nose on a walk they are very shy. It’s so funny.

The boys are very excited to have a gingerbread house kit to put together with Grandma over the weekend. They have built one with her before, but we had told them we weren’t going to get one this year since there are already so many treats in the house. But the spirit of Christmas prevailed and they got one anyway!

They are going stir-crazy with anticipation for Grandma’s arrival. After we took Chad to the airport and they had dinner it was like they were totally at loose ends. We played a few hands of Uno.

Then they started sumo wrestling.

Of course this started out all smiles and laughter.

It’s so much fun to run directly at each other at top speed and then slam into each other without regard for safety at all!

I think you know where this is heading.

Yes, of course, it ended with a head slamming into the french doors and tears. Despite my warnings: 1) do not get hurt and 2) if you do get hurt suck it up.

Ah well. I did see it coming.

I’m sure this will be my last post before my trip. I’m hoping that I might be able to post a few pictures during the weekend, but if not I’ll have a bunch to share when we get back. I’m really excited to be up north during the holidays…it’s so much more real in places where it actually gets cold. It’s also cool to see the White House and lawn decorated for the holidays. We plan to go to the pop culture gallery at the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian. It has been closed the last couple of times we were in D.C. We really want to see Archie Bunker’s chair :)
