Sickness, biking, voting, Menchie’s
Last night I went on the family evening walk for the first time in a long time.

Looking back at my Training/Workout Calendar, it looks like the last time was August 28th!

It was a nice evening…not too warm and not too humid. I was struck by Cal’s hair blowing in the breeze.

Chad says that Cal has the hair he wanted when he was a kid, but his dad wouldn’t let him grow it out that long. Apparently the hard-assness has become diluted through the generations.
After the boys went to bed we watched the presidential debate in the study. We watched on C-Span so there wouldn’t be all the ridiculous newscaster commentary. Chad worked while we watched and I had TweetDeck open the entire time. Twitter commentary is much better than newscaster commentary. So entertaining.
I woke up in the middle of the night with my throat on fire, so I guess I have to admit that I am actually sick. I used that as an excuse to hit snooze this morning and ended up driving Mack to school. I got Cal off to the bus stop then made breakfast…pumpkin walnut Kodiak Cakes again. Comfort food.

I debated blowing off exercise all together today since I’m sick, but then decided that I had to do something or else I’d feel worse about not working out than I would about my sore throat. So as not to spread my germs around the gym I decided to just go for a bike ride. It was nice and overcast and not too hot.

I had a heavy back pack, filled with re-usable ice packs left over from my last Chobani shipment, that I took and dropped off at a friend’s house. I tied my string back pack together with a hair tie in the center of my chest to take some of the pressure off my shoulders. It was still digging into them, but I only had to go a few miles with them before dropping them off.

I’m so glad I decided to go for a ride. I think it helped to relieve some of the sinus pressure I was feeling.

I biked to a shopping center and voted!

I could have just stuck it in my mailbox at home, but I don’t trust my mail carrier. Ever since Seinfeld I haven’t really trusted mail carriers, and ours in particular drives me crazy with some of the things he/she does. It’s not even one particular carrier, as we seem to have different ones occasionally (sometimes a man, sometimes a woman).
I didn’t make any effort to push my pace today and just enjoyed the ride.

It was a nice ten miles in about an hour.

When I got home I made lunch, which was a salad with a crab cake on top.

Last time crab cakes were BOGO at Fresh Market I stocked up and stuck them in the freezer. Fresh Market makes pretty good crab cakes.
Today was early release day, so pretty soon it was time to pick up Mack. After we picked up Cal and his friend Cameron from the bus stop, we didn’t head back home. Instead we went to Menchie’s!

Today was free waffle bowl Wednesday!

I sampled a new-to-me flavor…

but I couldn’t really taste any bacon. The owner told us it doesn’t actually contain any bacon. It really just tasted like maple and was okay, but I stuck with my usual peanut butter cup and a little bit of coconut.

I used my smileage card and earned $5 in Menchie’s Money to use on our next visit.

Thanks Menchie’s Northeast Park! I talked with the owner for a little bit and he is a really nice guy. I’m sorry I made him burn a waffle cone because we were talking.

After our froyo snack we we went home for a little while until it was time to take Cal to karate, where I now sit writing this. Chad is going out to dinner with his boss tonight and the boys and I are going to have gyros and sugar snap peas. We had some leftover gyro meat in the freezer (from the Little Greek on 4th Street) and I found 60 calorie pitas in the deli at Publix again.
Tonight I’m planning to hang out at this Twitter chat while watching television.
Cya.

Hope you get a good night’s sleep and feel better tomorrow!
Thank you my friend!
You left me wanting ice cream……………lol
I hope you feel better soon. I think it’s awesome you worked out even though you were feeling under the weather. My brother’s hair sticks straight up so it’ll never be soft and flowing like your son. Super cute
Thanks Grace!
Hope you feel better soon! I think going for that ride was a good idea – I know I always feel a little better when I do a low intensity workout just to get my blood moving a little.
It did make me feel better (at least temporarily). Thanks!
nice picture of my garage! I’m glad you didn’t take any pictures of the rest of my house–it desparately needs a paint job!
david always says that going for an easy run or ride when he’s sick always makes him feel better.
I hope you are feeling better. Wow, bacon mapel. I would not have even tried that flavor, because I don’t eat pork. That does not make sense to me that they would post that flavor, and it does not have bacon in it. Sounds very misleading indeed.
I didn’t even think it tasted the least bit like it had bacon flavoring or anything. Just tasted like maple.
