Thanksgiving Day and week

November 23, 2012 at 11:54 am

We had a great day yesterday, all four of us together all day. I love days like that. Thanksgiving is awesome.

After the Tampa Bay Times Turkey Trot, we hung out at home for a while and got cleaned up to head to my friend KT’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. They have been nice enough to invite us to Thanksgiving dinner for quite a few years now…

so it is a tradition and we would most likely just show up at their house on Thanksgiving Day even if they didn’t invite us. But luckily they did.

We brought the mashed potatoes, as per tradition.

Thanks to Chad for making all of our contribution to Thanksgiving dinner.

Chad also made a Pumpkin Angel Food Cake, which hung out nicely with all the pies.

1 cup canned pumpkin
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 box of one step Angel Food Cake Mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl combine pumpkin, cloves cinnamon, ginger, vanilla , and nutmeg; set aside.

In another bowl prepare cake mix according to directions on box. Fold pumpkin mixture into cake batter. Spoon into an ungreased tube pan.

Bake for 38-44 minutes or until the top is golden brown.Remove pan from oven and turn upside down to cool. May frost with cream cheese frosting if desired, but excellent just plain or with whipped cream (I like Lite Cool Whip).

This recipe was sent to us in an e-mail from Chad’s mom, who forwarded it from Chad’s aunt. I don’t know the proper attribution, but it is a good one and I’d be happy to give credit to whoever first created it.

We had great food and great friends. The kids had a blast.

Thanks for hosting us KT, and thanks for your awesomeness CC.

Random photos taken this week:

We have been working on getting the great room cleaned up so we can put up the Christmas decorations. Cleaning up always means discovering toys that have been buried, so there are often playtime detours during clean-ups.

I did manage to get the corner where the Christmas tree resides cleaned out.

But, I still need to take electronics to be properly disposed of, find a new home for all of the skateboarding gear, and organize all of Cal’s school stuff which is cluttering up the area.

Both of the boys worked on stripping down TONS of newspapers so that we can take them to recycling. And yes, we have spent an inordinate amount of time this week in our pajamas.

I ate this for lunch one day:

It was really good. I have one more Trader Joe’s item that we bought that I want to try (corn salsa) and then I’m going to write a Trader Joe’s review post. Maybe.

I made this recipe for Roasted Cauliflower and White Beans one night as a side dish.

I served it with pork chops.

Cal really liked it, but Mack just said it was okay.

They both agreed that Thanksgiving chocolate chip cookies Fed Ex’d by Grandma Viv are awesome.

So now it’s Black Friday. The boys went out to see a movie.

I have done a little online shopping. I bought my ShowerPills!

I prefer to do all (or as much as possible) of my shopping online. Know of any great online Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals? Chad has been bugging me for things for my wish list, so I’m shopping for myself as well as for friends and family.

I’ve gotten some great ideas from Kitchen Kilometer’s post today about Steph’s Favorite things 2012. I also found a couple of things from Blogging Basics 101’s post today called Black Friday Tech Deals for Bloggers. Know of any other cool lists of gift ideas?

I’m getting ready to head out to storage again to get another load of Christmas decorations. We actually have a laid-back weekend planned. We do have one fun thing planned for tomorrow.

Parkesdale Farm Market is having a holiday tasting event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a Small Business Saturday promotion. My family and I plan to stop by! I promise that it is worth a trip to Plant City. If you’ve never had one, you must try a strawberry milkshake. It is the best ever. I plan to try a pumpkin milkshake this time for variety’s sake. I have heard it is also amazing. I can’t wait to check out all of the products they have for the holidays. They have a huge assortment of sauces, preserves, and specialty Florida products as well as awesome produce.

I am so in the holiday spirit now. I’m itching to put up our decorations. Cya!
