Super quick, so I can get back to partying…

Last night:

Really loving It Starts With Food. Getting psyched to try Whole30. In the meantime I’m ingesting lots of ice cream, white bread, and alcohol. The book says to start RIGHT NOW. Yeah, no.

Today:

The in-laws took the grandkids to GattiTown and Chad and I began our New Years Eve and wedding anniversary celebration. Our 19th wedding anniversary is tomorrow.

Indian buffet for lunch…

We were surrounded by hookahs…

and mirrors.

The food was excellent.

The bathrooms were gross. Very. And we were there right when they opened for lunch. I would have given them four stars on Yelp based on the food and service, but they are getting three because of the bathrooms. Yuck.

After lunch we went to a movie.

Django Unchained was excellent. Tarantino may be getting a bit formulaic, but still, awesome.

Next we stocked up on supplies for the night…

then headed to our hotel. We are lucky to have celebrated our anniversary in this fashion for the last several years. Thank you grandparents!

We got our DoubleTree cookies and settled in.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-23

Just like at The Portofino, we have a view of the pool.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-19

Also, complimentary champagne.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-22

Now it’s time to get showered and dressed for the party tonight.

Happy New Years! Cya in 2013.

Date night in Kentucky

December 30, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Last night Gramma and Paw took the boys and my nieces to the niece’s gymnastics studio for “open gym”. My mother-in-law took a couple of pictures.

Apparently it is a huge facility and there were around sixty kids there. They ate pizza and burned off energy on the trampolines and equipment and the boys said it was awesome.

We took advantage of having grandparents around and went out on a date. We decided to try Saul Good Restaurant & Pub.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-1

I loved the décor in the restaurant which included lots of damask and chandeliers.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-2

I started with a pomegranate cosmo. I love a fruity cocktail, but this one was overly sweet and all I could taste was syrup so I ordered a shot of Ketel One to add to it and then it was perfect.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-14

Chad got this bourbon beer which he loved.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-29

I tried a sip and although I’m not a huge beer fan, I thought it was really good also, probably because it seemed sweet.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-6

For my entrée I got the Baja Fish Tacos which are on their appetizers menu.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-7

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-5

The tuna kabobs were quite spicy and delicious and the pineapple/banana salsa was really good too. It was very sweet, but how could it not be with pineapple and banana? That was a new salsa combination to me, but I liked it on the tacos. The chips were not very good and I only ate a couple with the salsa. My mother-in-law has a bag of really good blue corn tortilla chips. If a restaurant is going to use bagged tortilla chips in their restaurant, why wouldn’t they make sure that they were the best bagged tortilla chips they could find?

Saul Good also had this on their menu:

For my locals, should this be a new Derby Party tradition? It is exactly the ingredients that we use to make our hot browns…

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-28

except on a pizza instead of bread. Eh, I guess we’ll stick with the original version since it makes nice individual portions. But I was tempted by that pizza last night.

After we finished eating we moved to the bar for one more drink because we had a little time to kill before we headed to a movie.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-8

Since my pom cosmo wasn’t so great, I opted for a skinny margarita this time which was okay. They used the same “lite” rita mixer that I have bought at home. Lazy bar. Not impressed.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-15

We were impressed by the frozen beer taps, though.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-9

I’m going to give Saul Good a solid three stars on Yelp. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return there, but wouldn’t mind going there again if the opportunity arose. Next time I’m trying that hot brown pizza.

After our second (well, technically third for me if you count that extra shot) drink we walked across the parking lot to the movie theater.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-10

We saw Guilt Trip, which was excellent.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-11

Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen were both so good in it. Streisand looks amazing, and not just because of her obvious eye lift. As a mother of two boys, I could so relate and am sure that I will be that mother in a few years when the boys are adults. Sorry boys. I think it’s inevitable.

Thanks to my in-laws for entertaining the boys and for the awesome chauffer service!

This morning the boys got to play in the snow again, this time with their cousins.

Even Paw got into the act.

Cal built a snow ramp and caught some air.

This afternoon Chad, his brother Brian, and I went out to run a few errands which included stopping by a UK fan store for the obligatory annual UK gear perusal.

I now own some UK underwear (not being modeled above). Hooray.

That’s it for today, I guess. We’re enjoying family time and the cold, cold weather. The highs every day (and forecast for the rest of our time here) are right around 30°. I’m enjoying wearing my sweater leggings, new boots that the boys gave me for Christmas, and my big puffy gold coat which has never once been worn in Florida.

Happy New Years Eve Eve! Cya.
