Mega catch-up

May 14, 2013 at 9:54 am

I have totally gotten out of the habit of blogging. So much going on! I haven’t even been taking too many photos the past week or so. But of course, there are always SOME photos that must be blogged and there is fascinating stuff going on around here which the world must see.

The first thing on my mind this morning is my new niece, Vivi Lee, born yesterday! Here she is with my mom (Grandma Viv) and her big brother Cody.

Congratulations to my sister Janet and my brother-in-law Bob! I can’t wait to meet her in person in a few weeks. I wish I was there now! My arms are literally aching to hold this baby.

Send more pictures please!

The next thing on my mind is the fun evening I had Saturday night. I was invited by the Tampa Bay Rays to attend the game versus the San Diego Padres on Saturday and to stay for the Kenny Loggins concert afterwards.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-10

{Disclosure: I was given free tickets to the game and VIP field passes for the concert in exchange for helping to spread the word about the Rays Summer Concert Series.}

My friend BJ agreed to be my date and we had awesome seats right behind home plate.

It’s always cool to be at Tropicana Field. I have been there many times for Rays games and for other events (like when I did a bootcamp workout on the field, and when I ran through it during the Women’s Half Marathon), but it never gets old.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-11

After a few innings we met up with my friend Ali and her boyfriend Mark and moved over to their seats near the outfield.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-12

We were ready for some ballpark food, and on Ali’s suggestion Bobbi-Jo and I got these awesome turkey carver sandwiches at a kiosk called Carvers.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-34

There was like a pound of turkey on this thing, and the thick-cut chips were awesome also.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-35

We had instructions to head down to one of the outfield field entrances during the 9th inning. While we were waiting in the VIP holding pen (feeling very important) we watched the game on a television that was down there and got to see the Rays win the game!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-36

We felt pretty special to be one of the first few people allowed onto the field after the game.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-13

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-14

We were positioned right in front of the concert stage!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-37

The Rays have been doing a Summer Concert Series for a few years now, and the concerts are very popular.

The field filled up behind us and there were tons of people still in the stands for the concert.

We were so close to Kenny!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-19

Thank you so much for the VIP treatment, Rays!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-22

We had a blast singing along with all of Kenny’s 80’s hits like “I’m Alright” (theme song from Caddyshack), “Footloose” (theme song of Footloose, duh), and “Danger Zone” (theme song from Top Gun). He’s the sound track king!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-26

I got pretty nostalgic and a little emotional when he sang “Forever”, remembering what it felt like to be 16 years old in 1985. We were surrounded by a few Kenny Loggins superfans, and I thought one lady was going to faint during this song because she got so emotional.

It was so fun. Thanks again, Rays, and thanks to my date BJ and my BFF Ali. You guys are always awesome.

Be sure to check out some more of the Rays Summer Concert Series: Martina McBride (June 8th, Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles), Imagination Movers (June 16, Rays vs. Kansas City Royals), Carly Rae Jepsen (July 14, Rays vs. Houston Astros), One Republic (August 17, Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays), and Victoria Justice (August 18, Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays).

Also last week, there was tons of improvements happening at our old house including professional cleaning, interior painting, new carpet, and a few odd jobs for the handyman.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-29

It’s now gleaming because it’s so fresh and new and clean. And it’s on the market!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-30

It feels so weird to see that realtor’s lock box hanging from MY doorknob. We are really hoping that it sells quickly!

Because now we have this other house…lots of unpacking going on last week.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-1

I pretty much have the kitchen and dining room unpacked and set up now, but there are still boxes everywhere.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-4

I escaped the madhouse on Friday to go on a Principal’s List fieldtrip with Mack.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-5

It was at a local gymnastics place, in case you couldn’t figure that out.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-6

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-7

Good times. Probably the last fieldtrip of the year, I guess.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-8

It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks of school left!

Finally, I had a great Mother’s Day.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-28

I pretty much spent it ordering the boys around and unpacking because that is what I most wanted to do. I can’t wait to finally have the house set up so we can actually just LIVE in it. I’m so tired of digging through boxes and not being able to find stuff!

That’s it for now…

Whoa, it’s May

May 6, 2013 at 2:45 pm

Last time I blogged it was mid-April. How did that happen? I mean, not much has been going on around here. Here’s the stuff that I took pictures of over the last few weeks:

On Friday, April 27th Chad and I went to the mega annual Yelper Party, this year called the Yelptucky Derby.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-5

Open to all Yelpers who RSVP’d, we were wined and dined by some of Yelp Tampa Bay’s favorite vendors all night. For the first time in 17 years we are not having a Kentucky Derby Party, so this was our substitute.

The next day, on Saturday, April 27th the boys and I did the Meek & Mighty Triathlon:

Then the day after that, Sunday, April 28th I participated in the St. Anthony’s Triathlon with my relay team, 3 Moms Who Tri.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-3

I did the swim leg (duh), my friend Nikki was our cyclist, and my friend Beth was our runner.

My friend Christie was also the swimmer on a relay team, so we hung out together before the start.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-2

My relay team ended up getting 10th place out of 21 all-female relay teams, so I was pretty proud of us!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-7

Even though I was exhausted after two very early race mornings, my friend Ali convinced me to go out with her Sunday afternoon to the Local Top Chef competition being put on by Local Shops 1.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-7

Ali is on the board for Local Shops 1, so we had some sweet VIP passes and got to try everything and vote in the People’s Choice competition.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-8

Thanks for the invitation Ali!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-9

The food was great, but we decided to stop by Red Mesa Cantina afterwards for a real drink (hello tequila…beer and wine just are not you).

Two days later, Chad and I closed on our new house!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-30

We are in love with this house, largely because of that awesome pool! We had a few friends over Tuesday afternoon to help us celebrate in the empty house…it was a “bring your own chair” party.

Sweet.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-24

On Wednesday my amazing friend, the other Caroline, helped me clean the new house. Thank you so much CC for the best housewarming gift ever!

We introduced Chewie to the new house…

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-14

He is thrilled with so many new smells.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-15

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-16

Pool + pool table = amazing.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-17

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-18

Oh, did you notice…Cal got a haircut!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-56

Excellent.

We spent all day Thursday getting the cable/internet installed, as well as having the boys’ beds and a new media cabinet delivered and installed.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-57

We also had the house sprayed for bugs (of which there were many) and had a yard maintenance guy take a look at some things we need to have done. It was kind of a crazy, awesome day of getting ready for the big move…which happened on Friday!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-19

I am in total awe of movers. Four guys carried hundreds of boxes and huge furniture down our stairs all day long.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-25

It was crazy and exhausting, as I was packing and moving stuff all day long also. But after seeing how hard those guys work I would never complain. They did a great job and I’d definitely recommend Brothers EZ Moving. In fact, after all of this, I think I will start “Caroline’s List”, as I now have excellence referrals for realtors, handymen, electricians, painters, house cleaners, yard maintenance folks, pool service companies, gutter cleaners, and furniture/appliance stores. Need a recommendation? And thanks to all of my friends who gave ME recommendations.

Finally all of our stuff was moved into the new house, and amongst the new maze of boxes we had a little party…thanks for the cake Gramma!

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-31

Our celebration was pretty short-lived, as we still had all of this stuff at the old house…

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-20

Yard sale time on Saturday!

yard sale

It was pretty good. We sold tons of stuff, including the boys old bunk beds, and made about $375 total. Everything left went to Good Will and the Salvation Army. Whew.

Sunday I had the old house professionally cleaned, and it is looking really good. It’s going to look fabulous in a few days as the inside is being painted and new carpet is going into the bedrooms. My realtor is having it photographed on Friday and it will be on the market on Saturday. Anybody looking for a sweet house in a great neighborhood and school district?

I have about a million and one photos of the new house…every room from every angle. There are a few sneak peeks in the photos above, but as I get stuff unpacked I’ll be sharing some more photos, I’m sure. I mean, we live here now! It’s bound to be on the blog. Here are a few more photos I took to send to our mothers for Mother’s Day…
