Displaying my decorative gourds

November 20, 2013 at 11:02 am

I put away all of the indoor Halloween decorations pretty much right after Halloween, but it took me a week or so to get to the outdoor things.

When I removed the big skull from our front door I discovered that it had become home to this frog.

He was maybe three inches long and very pale when I first exposed him.

He didn’t budge.

As I took down all of the rest of the Halloween things he just hung out and became more colorful.

Even when I hung the turquoise wreath back up he just veg’d.

He was not there the next day, though. I guess he found a new home.

Now the front porch looks like this:

We have a bunch of dead bushes right in front of the porch and in general the planting beds are overgrown and need to be redone. Just ignore that part.

Inside the house I distributed the decorative gourds all around.

I used the teak serving tray that I got at Brocante Vintage Market this month on the mantle. I love it.

I found this brass leaf tray on the clearance end cap at Target for $8:

I always check the home décor clearance end caps when I go to Target. Different departments mark things down weekly on a specific day. I think the home décor department marks things down on Tuesday, but I’d have to Google it again to remember for sure. I don’t know…I don’t make a special trip for mark-down day, but I always check when I’m there. Such good stuff.

Chad brought home some colorful fall flowers.

Most of our Thanksgiving decorations were made by the boys in preschool.

I realized just now that three of these books are for Halloween. Oh well…I’m keeping them out to give to Cody.

So that’s it for Thanksgiving décor, although I’m going to switch some things around to decorate the tables for Thanksgiving dinner. Decorative gourds are endlessly versatile.

Cody and ViviLee are coming!

November 19, 2013 at 10:52 am

I’m so excited for Thanksgiving this year. We usually don’t travel for Thanksgiving since we travel to visit family after Christmas. We are so lucky to have great friends that we have shared Thanksgiving with for many years. This year we are hosting Thanksgiving with friends at our new house and it’s going to be even more wonderful because these people are coming to visit:

I can’t wait to see them all! I’m working on the guest room and getting the rest of the house in order. The boys are beside themselves with excitement to have Cody here and to see ViviLee again. She was a tiny newborn when we saw her back in June and now she is six months old. Look at those cheeks! I need to kiss them.
