About Me
I’m Melinda Caroline Calcote. Sometimes known as Melinda Davis by those who don’t really know me.
I’m 42, I think. I always forget how old I am. My birthday is May 18, 1969.
I’m a wife. I’ve been married for 17 years (Jan. 1, 1994). My solid marriage to my true soulmate is my saving grace.
I’m a mother. I have two of the most handsome, smartest boys ever. Seriously.
I’m an attorney, sort of. I have a J.D., and pay dues to the Florida Bar. That makes me an attorney, right? Let’s just say I’m retired.
I love to scrapbook, but haven’t been doing much of it lately. Blogging is the new scrapbooking, right?
I hate housekeeping and do very little of it. It’s pretty much last on my list of priorities.
I’m a fat girl, living in a thin girl’s body. It’s a constant struggle. I’ve lost and regained and lost 100 pounds several times in my life. It’s ridiculous.

you are TOO funny!!! I realy enjoy reading your blog. Thank you for sharing:)
First, your hubby is a cutie! Actually so are your boys!! Thanks for letting us “in”.
I’ve lost 100 lbs myself. I ended up gaining a lot of it back, so I’m working on getting back in shape.
Few points…
You are funny.
It’s good to forget birthday. (Actually Birth Year)…
As you said… fat girl living in slim body…
Don’t worry… Your heart is very slim… thats enough…
Be happy you have rock solid marriage and life…
Keep on reducing and gaining… It’s way of life…
Have fun… have rock solid life…
All the best…
Congratulations on losing 100 pounds! You should feel very proud and happy about your accomplishment.
Really, Melinda? I NEVER knew that! You were always Caroline to me!
Well, we were eight years old the last time we saw each other, so how deep did our relationship really go? haha. We were good friends for eight year olds, though

My old running partner is an attorney and I was impressed with how smart she was and how she saw the world. (She’s still alive. I just don’t get to see her at much.) From what I read here, you remind me so much of her. I’m “retired” too. Working took the fun out of life and me. Great blog and I wish you all the best!
Are you related to the hundreds of Calcotes who live in southwest Mississippi and who all descend from John Calcote, a soldier in the American Revolution? John Calcote was originally from South Carolina but he moved to Mississippi in the early 1800′s. I am a descendant of John Calcote’s and if you are then we definitely need to have a chat.
I can’t say for sure, but it’s likely. I know that my Calcote ancestors were from Mississippi a few generations back. My uncle has traced our Calcote geneology back to Europe (and quite a ways back from there), so he would know for sure if we are descendents of John Calcote. I also know that I am eligible for the Daughters of the American Revolution, so probably from John. Thanks for your comment!
Hi Melinda – I just wanted to thank you for posting the pictures of my sidewalk art. I am so glad you and your children enjoyed it. It’s good to know I have neighbors as cool as you – really enjoyed reading your blog about you and your family. I’ll be out there chalking again from time to time, stop and chat if you can! ~ Dee
You’re welcome and thank you for beautifying the neighborhood! If I see you again I’ll definitely say Hi! Love your work
