I’m really sorry that I didn’t blog for six months. Actually, I’m not sorry that I didn’t blog. I’m just sorry that my blog didn’t miraculously write itself during my hiatus. It felt good not to feel chained to my website, but many fascinating things happened in my life in the last six months which are mostly lost forever from the interwebs. At least Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter helped to keep the internet abreast of my life in the interim. All was not lost to history.
I just had to wait for the urge to return and I’ve been feeling it lately. I am not even going to try to recap all that happened in the last six months. It’s too much. The major highs and lows include my 20th wedding anniversary and the death of my father on March 1st. I am still majorly grieving for my dad. But today, right now, is a very happy time so I’ll just start there.
My mother is here visiting for Mack’s 10th birthday.
We know that Chewie was born in June of 2004, so we celebrate their birthdays together. They are both now in double digits!
Mom got here on Thursday, Mack’s actual birthday, and we went to TacoSon for his requested birthday dinner.
I got the only thing on the menu that I thought might be NSNG (no sugar, no grains)…shrimp ceviche. And it was delicious…very spicy.
Friday my mom and I sewed a bunch of pretty things for my house. Mom is a sewing genius and helped me a bunch. We made new curtains for my ugly master bathroom. It still had the really sad curtains left behind by the previous owners. This is the photo from when we first looked at the house (same curtains):
This bathroom is a floor to ceiling tile mausoleum, except for the huge mirror that runs the length and height of one entire wall. The huge tub and tiny sink are burple, or brown-purple, or mauve. The shiny brass fancy fixtures are all corroded and peeling. Not much can help it other than a sledge-hammer, but the fugly curtains weren’t helping.
Those little curtains are lined and so professionally made. Thanks Mom.
I had some of the tropical leaf fabric left over so we made new covers for the bar stools in our pool table room.
The fabric is indoor/outdoor, and we also made these lumbar pillows for the lounge chairs on the pool deck.
I am very proud of these pillows. I made the piping by hand and put a contrasting back with an overlapping pocket for the insert.
I’m trying to think of some more sewing projects for us to do before she leaves.
Mom also brought a tie-dye kit for the boys to make t-shirts.
Yesterday we had Mack’s birthday party at our house. I designed and created his invitations myself with the help of PicMonkey.
There was lots of swimming and hot dog eating.
Hey…I wrote a blog post!
