Fall festival and costume choices

Last night was Mack’s school’s fall festival.

The weather was perfect and we got there right as they opened the gates to the school.

They had a bunch of games and raffles, and had a couple of bounce houses set up.

They also had a fire truck, police K9 unit, and other community partners out there doing exhibitions. Cal and Mack immediately hooked up with buddies and I barely saw them. At some point they got hungry and had hot dogs and chips for dinner. I hung out with my friend Charlotte (Charlotte Smiled) and chatted most of the evening.

As the evening wore on it got more and more crowded and they ended up with a really good turn-out, I think. I got to meet several more parents at the school and see several more friends. The boys had a great time. I decided to put the camera away after we first got there and just hang out and enjoy the evening. After the sun went down I got chilly, since I had changed into shorts mid-day. Yay for fall! Getting chilly in Florida is something to celebrate in October.

Today I finished spray painting the green bed and it’s out in the yard drying now. I am going to be mattress shopping soon and hopefully getting the guest room all organized and presentable. I hope we have guests for Thanksgiving! None of my family has seen our new house yet.

Tonight we are going to the annual Halloween party hosted by our friends, the Turtles. (Here’s Turtles Halloween 2011 which includes many throwback photos from Turtles Halloweens past, and Turtles Halloween 2012). I’m still trying to decide what costume to wear tonight. My options are angel or leopard.

I purposely made that photo small so you won’t notice the messy, unmade bed in the background or my lack of makeup or the fact that the white dress does not even cover my bra. If I do the angel costume I’m probably going to wear a different white dress that I have or wear a camisole under that one. It’s way too revealing for my comfort level. I may wear one of these tonight and the other on Halloween. I’m pondering.

I bought the angel costume from my high school friend Julie. Look at this amazing packaging job she did:

It arrived totally intact. Thanks Julie! I already had the leopard dress (from LOFT) and I bought the leopard accessory kit off of Amazon. I plan to do cat make-up with that one also.

Which do you like better?

St. Raphael Festival 2013

October 20, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Last night we all headed to Snell Isle for the annual St. Raphael Festival.

St Raphs Fest

We have attended this festival for several years and always have a great time. Click here to see our St. Raphael Festival adventures last year. Click here to see our St. Raphael Festival adventures from 2011. St. Raph’s is in our old neighborhood and we always see so many of our friends there. Last night was no exception. I think we knew about 100 people there. It was great.

I took a photo of all of the boys under the sign at the entrance and then realized that I had no memory card in my camera. Doh. So all of the photos in this post were taken with my cell phone and many of them are really bad. Oh well.

First stop…the beer truck (not for me).

The area with the little kids’ rides used to be popular for our kids, but now they weren’t interested in these things…

We headed straight for the midway.

First up was the scrambler.

Then Mack and his buddy Joey rode The Spider and Cal and his buddies disappeared into the carnival.

Mack and Joey hit up The Hurricane next.

We found Cal and his friends eventually.

They were off to 1001 Nachts.

This festival is on the grounds of a Catholic church and is in a small neighborhood, so it is not huge and feels pretty safe. We just let the boys run free with their friends. At some point we found Mack and Joey at the bumper cars.

We all met up to ride the Ferris Wheel together.

This pains my grain/sugar loathing heart, but Chad got them all a funnel cake to split.

It was 90 degrees out there even after dark and we were all dripping sweat all night but it was still super fun. We got to catch up with some out of town friends as well as a dozen or so of Chad’s college friends who are local. We saw tons of our Shore Acres friends and got to spend some time in our old neighborhood. We’ll be back next year!
