My recent past

January 14, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Today I ran the St. Pete Beach Classic 10K and it was great. More on that to come, but I haven’t posted much about what we’ve been up to recently, so I’m going to fill you in on that first.

Last Saturday Chad took the boys to the circus.

I got back into the routine of walking the boys to school every day this week.

Back to dodging sprinklers.

I ran on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week and finally brought my “Still Running” Page up to date. I did not go to the gym this week. I was sore from last Sunday’s Bodypump until Friday! All those runs were on sore legs, but I had to do it. And since my legs weren’t sore from running (but rather from excessive squats), I don’t think it made my soreness worse. It just made my running hurt more. I felt like I had to get my running back on track before I could get back into the gym routine again. I plan to go to the gym this week.

This is how many caffeine-free Diet Cokes I drink in about a month:

Those are mostly from 12-ounce bottles, but there were a few 2-Liter caps in there as well. It’s terrible, I know. Shut up. The school gets P.E. equipment from Coke with these things somehow. I just drink the stuff to support the school.

I volunteered at school on Thursday. Same old 5th grade math tutoring and 2nd grade homework packets happened.

I sat with Mack in the courtyard while he ate his lunch.

Officer Cal.

Thursday night we went to a PTA event for fourth and fifth graders to read some of their published writing.

Fourth grade on the left, fifth grade on the right.

Mack videotaped Cal’s reading, but I haven’t uploaded it to YouTube yet.

Here are the poems Cal read with his original illustrations.

That last poem is NOT about suicide. We had a long talk about this poem. Don’t worry. I think Cal may have some Goth aspirations. He knows what Goth is and thinks it’s really cool. His teenage years are going to be so fun.

Friday (yesterday) morning my friend Dawn and I drove out to St. Pete Beach to pick up our race packets for the St. Pete Beach Classic.

It was a tiny expo, but actually the splif wasn’t bad. I like the drawstring backpack (you can see half of it below) and I use those things often when biking to the gym. They tend to fall apart after a while. Walgreen’s gave us an additional goody bag with a bunch of neat stuff in it, plus freshly popped popcorn and bottled water. I’ve been in bigger races where the goody bags weren’t as nice. The long-sleeved tech race shirts are really nice, but I haven’t taken a picture of mine yet.

Thanks for driving Dawn!

Last night the famous IRunMommies kickball team (of Showdown on the Playground charity kickball tournament fame),

met up to enjoy our Most Team Spirit award of a big gift certificate to Praktically Pikasso, a local paint-your-own pottery place.

It involved wine and chocolate, but I guess you were already assuming that.

I made two little ice cream bowls for the boys. The colors are going to be super bright after they are fired. I’ll try to remember to post a picture of them after I pick them up next Friday.

We missed our teammates who couldn’t be there!

Okay, that’s all I got for now. Stay tuned for a race recap, and maybe some random rambling. I have lots of things on my mind.
