Last night’s walk and this morning’s run

March 24, 2012 at 1:38 pm

I remembered to bring along the camera again on last night’s family evening walk.

Before the time change our evening walks were completely in the dark, so there was not much point to the camera.

But now the morning walks to school are in the dark and the evening walks are in the light.

Why do we still bring the stroller with nobody in it? It’s a poop bag carrier. Mack still gets in it for like the last tenth of a mile, which is stupid. The kid has done multiple 5K’s…he could walk 1.6 miles. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just a habit, but it is nice to have somewhere to put the poop bags (underneath).

Last night Chad and I watched Awake. Chad has decided to abandon the show, so I probably will too. It’s okay, but not great, and we’d rather spend the time watching something else. We also watched an episode of 2 Broke Girls. We are still liking that one.

This morning I headed out to Belleair Bluffs to meet up with my friend Jenny (of Run Hot Momma) for a long run.

The theme for this run?

Hills Do Them

The source for that photo goes through like 25 bloggers, so I don’t know where it originated. Does anybody know? I’d kind of like to run those hills (that’s not Florida, duh).

We were doing the same route that we did two weeks ago (but adding on), so right at the beginning of the run was the Belleair Causeway Bridge.

A picture of the Belleair Causeway Bridge taken from Jenny’s boat:

I managed to run all the way up this first bridge, although I felt like I was going to die about half way up. Running down these long bridges is awesome.

Just like two weeks ago Jenny and I talked the whole time. Well, she talked, and I tried to talk while sucking air. It was rough this morning, but we kept a decent pace for the first half of the run and didn’t do too much walking…just a couple of times to drink water. It was pretty hot out there this morning.

Before I knew it we were at bridge number two, the Sand Key Bridge.

The base of the bridge was at about 4.5 miles (where we turned around two weeks ago) and from there it was almost half of a mile to the top at a very steep (and slanted) incline.

I did have to take a walk break half way up this bridge. So tough!

In addition to it being hot this morning, it was extremely sunny, as evidenced by this photo from the top of the Sand Key bridge.

It’s hard to see because of the huge fireball of the sun, but that picture (above, facing east) is of the Clearwater Memorial Causeway and the picture below (facing west) shows Sand Key on the left.

Halfway done!

Running back down is the best part.

We paused for a few minutes at the Sand Key bridge, and I think my body thought we should have been done at that point. I struggled after mile five to get back in the groove and kept having to take walking breaks like every half mile. Jenny hung with me until about 7.5 miles and then she went on ahead. The rest of the run was very run/walk for me.

Coming up on nine miles, I was back at the Belleair Causeway Bridge once more. One mile to go, and nothing but hills ahead. Big “Florida” hills.

At least the view is lovely on the bridges.

This bridge has smaller “pre-bridge” hills on its’ approaches from both directions.

I had to walk a couple of times going back up the Belleair Causeway this time. My body was just ready to be done by this point. I was so happy to get to the top!

Jenny was waiting for me back at our cars. Ten miles done!

The first half was much better than the second half, but I am happy with the whole thing.

The parking lot where we started out is a shopping center including a Panera. We both decided that a coffee and bagel sandwich were in order after this morning’s run.

Thanks for another great run Jenny! We are tentatively planning to do a point-to-point trifecta next week: the Belleair Causeway Bridge, the Sand Key Bridge, and the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge. I’m excited about it!

With our longer run I didn’t have time to make it to Bodyflow this morning. I haven’t been to Bodyflow in two weeks! I’m going to be very inflexible and unbalanced whenever I do make it back to Flow. I’m missing it, but not sure I’ll make it this week either.

When I got home the boys were all there, but they soon left to get lunch and then go see The Hunger Games. I decided to stay home and do a few things because my Mom is coming to visit from Tennessee tomorrow! We are all very excited about that.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

P.S. Secret Society meeting tonight! Smile
