Whole30, Day 6

January 13, 2013 at 9:50 am

Today was great! No headache and I felt like I had lots of energy.

My breakfast was awesome.

I made a hash out of onions, mushrooms, bell pepper, a tiny bit of homemade sausage crumbled up, and Swiss chard. I love Swiss chard, mostly because it is so beautiful.

After breakfast I decided to get out Specialized Snowflake and go for a ride. I haven’t ridden Snowflake since the 55+ mile Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life. I had been training on Snowflake for that ride for a while and after that I just felt like riding Star the Trek for a while. After getting Snowflake’s chain all lubed up and topping off the air in the tires, I set off towards downtown.

It was a gorgeous and HOT (mid-80’s) day. There were a ton of sailboats off the pier. I don’t know if they were having a sunfish regatta or if it was lessons, but they sure were pretty out there.

Down by the Dali Museum they already had barricades up for the Glow Run 5K.

I rode on past and all over the USF St. Pete campus and around Bayfront and All Children’s hospitals.

On the way back I stopped to take a photo of the shirtless guys setting up for the Glow Run.

I thought I recognized one of those shirtless guys, and it turned out to be my friend Tori’s fiancée, Patrick. And he happened to be standing there talking to Tori!

St. Pete is such a small town.

On the way back towards home I took the waterfront route, which slowed me down but is so gorgeous.

Lots of people were out enjoying North Shore Beach.

Yay for 15 miles!

When I got home I decided to go ahead and take down the rest of the outside Christmas decorations while I was already sweaty and dirty (inside decorations are mostly still up). After I showered I made a quick lunch.

(canned tuna, homemade mayo, tomato, avocado, blueberries)

Wow. I haven’t really been eating very much fruit during my Whole30, although it is allowed. They recommend limiting it to two pieces a day. After six days of no simple carbs and no added sugar those blueberries tasted like candy. I guess that’s the point, duh!

After lunch I did some things around the house and we all got ready to head downtown for the Glow Run. Chad made chicken wings and we packed them up to take with us for a pre-race picnic in Pioneer Park.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-17

He made three varieties of wings: teriyaki, chimichurri, and salt and pepper.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-18

I couldn’t eat the teriyaki wings because the marinade had soy and sugar, but the chimichurri and plain wings were awesome. Chad made an Asian broccoli slaw for himself and the boys to have on the side…

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-19

but again it had Ramen and soy, so I couldn’t have that. Instead, I made a side dish for myself consisting of snow peas, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and roasted sweet potatoes mixed up with some leftover “not peanut sauce”.

We had a great picnic. Afterwards we headed down for the start of the race. Spoiler: we had a blast.
