Whole30, Day 16

January 23, 2013 at 3:43 pm

I’m losing track of the days now! I know I will reintegrate some non-Whole30 foods back into my diet after this little experiment is over (I will need a margarita stat), but I really have gotten quite used to and comfortable with this way of eating. I definitely am not feeling deprived (well, except for alcohol). I have learned so much from the Whole30, both about nutrition and about myself. If you think, “I could NEVER do that! I could NEVER give up (all grains, dairy, beans, alcohol…pick your poison) for 30 days!”, then you are just like me. I said those exact same things to my friend Jenny a couple of months ago when she was doing the Whole30. The truth is you can do just about anything that you set your mind to.

This morning we walked to school.

I love purple sunrises.

Breakfast featured one of my new Whole30 compliant Trader Joe’s finds…smoked turkey kielbasa!

It’s really good. I made a scramble with the kielbasa, eggs, roasted butternut squash, and fresh spinach and then added pomegranate arils to the top at the end. So good.

After breakfast I went to Bodypump, wearing my new Jack Dusty t-shirt.

Bodypump was great today as it was taught by one of my old instructors from Lifestyles. Afterwards I went home and got all cleaned up to head to school for my volunteer day.

Lunch with my sweet potato first…

then I actually had some volunteer stuff to do! Ripping and stapling workbook pages is one of my favorite volunteer activities, for real.

Obviously the adult restroom in the school office is now a winter wonderland.

After volunteering I ran a couple of errands…

I was on a quest for pork tenderloin. They do not have much organic, grass-fed meat at Fresh Market, but I was hopeful they would at least have some higher quality pork. It’s close to impossible to find organic, non-factory farmed pork here at all anyway. It turns out they had ZERO pork tenderloins at Fresh Market, so I had to go buy a regular old pork tenderloin at Publix. They did have some better quality pork chops which I bought to stick in the freezer.

Once home from my errands I made lunch.

That’s the last of the leftover flank steak, an egg, beets, avocado, salsa, lettuce, spinach, arugula, and some Garlic Gold vinaigrette.

After lunch I got dinner started by making a recipe for paleo barbecue sauce from Paleo Comfort Foods (leaving out the honey and horseradish, since I couldn’t find any Whole30-compliant horseradish).

It turned out really gooooood.

The afternoon slipped by with chauffeuring boys, laundry, and who knows what-all.

Dinner was oven-baked barbecue chicken thighs…

roasted sweet potato rounds with cinnamon and salt…

and green beans. Although beans are legumes, the Whole30 makes an exception for green beans and snow peas since the bean itself is immature and most of the vegetable is the pod.

My dinner:

After dinner I headed downtown to meet up with Christie of Karna Fitness and my friends for Run & Restore. First up I did a 2-mile run/walk.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-20

It was a chilly evening, but perfect for running.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-21

My hip felt good the whole time I was running…no pain. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Last week when I tried to run I also had no pain while actually running, and it was only after speed-walking with Chad and the boys later that evening that I felt hip pain. I’m not giving up!

As always, there were tons of people out on the waterfront walking, running, rolling, and boot-camping. Random blurry bootcamp that I paparazzi’d:

I got down and dirty at Restore the Core since I forgot my mat and Christie also forgot all of her mats! Nothing like Pilates in the sandy dirt.

I love working out in the park after dark.

Chad and I watched an episode of Don’t Trust the B after I got home. That show is not the best ever, but James Van Der Beek is awesome as himself. If you ever watched Dawson’s Creek, I think you have to watch Don’t Trust the B because James is hilarious. I love grown-up Dawson, and I never liked teenage Dawson at all. What a wus.

That’s it! Cya.
