We’re heading home to Florida tomorrow. It has been a really fun week enjoying the COLD weather, nostalgia, and most of all family. Here’s what’s been happening the last couple of days…

I finished reading It Starts with Food and I have been getting my ducks in a row to start the Whole30 on Monday. I know it’s going to be a huge challenge, but I need a big challenge to get back on track with some healthy eating. I will be reviewing the book on the blog very soon and of course will be bitching and moaning about sharing my experiences with the plan on the blog.

Obviously we had a great time last night going to the game and afterwards with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. (love you Leigh Ann) Thanks again to my awesome in-laws for watching the boys so much this week, and especially for taking care of Mack last night as he has not been feeling well the last day or so. We’re going to miss you all so much.

Cya back in Florida.

Happy New Year to you and Happy Anniversary to us!

January 1, 2013 at 1:36 pm

It seems like everyone in the blogosphere did 2012 recaps and are now doing 2013 resolution (or some variation) posts. Not me. I’m too lazy to look back and do a recap and I’m not ready to get into my 2013 plans yet. I’m still on vacation for a few more days. I do plan to tackle some goals and try some new things in 2013, but I’ll write about those later. For now I’m just doing what I always do…sharing the mundane and the fabulous of my day to day life.

So today is our 19th wedding anniversary!

Here we are at one of our engagement parties in December of 1993:

Ah, so young. We were still in law school and really had no idea what direction our lives would take over the next 19 years. We got married at the courthouse on New Years Day, 1994. I was a clerk for the Fayette County District Court judges at the time. There were five judges that I worked for and I went from one to the other, asking if any of them would be willing to open the court house and marry us on a holiday. One of them, Judge Hayes if I remember correctly, agreed and we had a sweet little ceremony in the judges’ chambers with maybe 20 people in attendance consisting of family, family friends, and college and law school friends.

We did not have a professional photographer at the wedding, but everyone took snapshots and I have a ton of them back in Florida. A few days after our wedding we went to Olan Mills and had a studio photo taken for posterity.

My mom made the suit that I got married in and I loved it. It was never my dream to have the big white dress or the big white wedding. We did everything just the way that we wanted it and don’t regret a thing. It was kind of awesome. Our wedding cost $50 and that was just a tip that I gave to the judge as a thank-you…it wasn’t really required.

In all honesty, Chad and I didn’t even really feel like we needed a marriage certificate. We knew very early on in our relationship that we were meant to be together forever. Chad never actually proposed either.

One day we were discussing our plans for after law school. Chad really wanted to return to St. Petersburg, Florida where he had gone to undergrad (at Eckerd College). I was fine with that as I didn’t really have any ties to Kentucky or any strong desire to live anywhere else and I love an adventure. We decided that we should probably get married so as not to completely alienate my father. He would have been extremely disapproving of me moving to Florida, a place where I had no ties whatsoever, with my boyfriend. So we mutually decided to get married. Tada! Very romantic, right?

Whatever. Our decision to get married and our wedding itself may not have been the stuff of fairy tales, but our nineteen years of marriage have been. Of course we have gone through ups and downs in our marriage, but I can honestly say that we are more in love today than ever. Happy Anniversary honey!

We had a great time the past 24 hours celebrating while my in-laws kept the boys. I didn’t take many photos throughout the night, but here are a few:

Obviously that last one was a bit later in the evening.

At the moment the boys and my nieces are decorating the cake my mother-in-law made for our anniversary. We are having a laid back New Years Day.

Happy New Years!
