Last week’s exercise and some other stuff

March 24, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I have only been blogging special events here this past week it seems. I’m VERY distracted by our new house hunt right now. I’ve looked at a bunch of houses this past week with our realtor. There have been several flurries of, “OMG Chad, you have to come see this house today!” I am vetting all of the potential houses first since Chad’s available time is so limited. But there is very little inventory in St. Petersburg right now and anything good is GONE very quickly, so you have to move fast. We’ve lost the opportunity to even make an offer on several houses because they went under contract before Chad could even see them. So anyway, I’m highly distracted and just not finding the time or inclination to blog about my usual mundane fascinating life.

I have a backlog of things I want and need to blog about, and I may be putting up some very short, public service announcement-type blog posts in the near future just to keep from getting so far behind. I mean, the main purpose of this blog is just to record the memories of our daily life before they slip away never to return. But the “new house hunt” distractions are not going to stop anytime soon so blogging is not going to be a huge priority.

With that said, here’s a run-down of the sweating that I did this past week with a few miscellaneous photos thrown in there for good measure.

Tuesday night was Restore the Core with the awesome Christie of Karna Fitness.

Wednesday I went to a Yoga Sculpt class at Yoga Blu. This is a 90 minute class incorporating weights with traditional yoga poses. I’m starting to think all of the yoga classes at Yoga Blu are “hot” yoga. Both of the classes I went to this week seemed to be lacking any air conditioning. I was a dripping sweaty mess by the end.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-8

Of course I went to Publix that way to share my sweatiness with the world.

On Wednesday afternoon I picked up our third Annie’s Organics share. This one was huge. I could barely lift the box.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-10

We also ran by Fit2Run Wednesday afternoon to pick up my race packet for the Honda Grand Prix 5K.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-11

My IRunMommies friends Kelly and Dawn were working the packet pick-up.

I ended up not actually doing the Honda Grand Prix 5K in the end. I piled on a bunch of excuses: my friend who I was going to do it with got sick and I couldn’t verify that any of my other friends were going to be there; it was raining; my hip has been hurting all week since the Sarasota Half Marathon. The truth is that I got lazy and let those excuses sway me.

Saturday morning I went to a fundraising event at Above the Barre Fitness. My friend Maria, the owner, donated her time and studio for this class which helped to raise funds for a high school Relay for Life team benefitting the American Cancer Society.

This morning the boys and I loaded the bikes into the back of the micro mini-van and headed to Outspokin Bicycles in south Tampa.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-55

This was supposed to be a “blogger ride”, but we were the only ones who showed up. J.P., the store guru (his official title I’ve been told), was really nice about it though.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-33

We rode through the pretty south Tampa neighborhoods until we came to the bay at Bayshore Boulevard.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-36

It was an overcast, humid morning, but it always feels good to be on a bike.

My Fascinating Life Caroline Calcote-35

I enjoyed chatting with J.P. during most of our seven mile ride.

We stopped just before the bridge to Davis Island.

The first half of our ride was quick and easy because we had the wind at our backs. After we turned around we were fighting some pretty challenging winds.

We had a fun morning and celebrated by getting Dunkin Donuts afterwards. Thanks for meeting up with us J.P.!

Okay, caught up with all the mundane fascinating stuff. I still have a bunch of things I want to share but I am seriously preoccupied. I don’t want to jinx it, but we put an offer in on a house yesterday. There is also another offer on the table. We really want it. Keep your fingers crossed. This could become our new front porch:

Whole30, Day 23 and a fieldtrip to The Dali

January 30, 2013 at 3:37 pm

Chewie and I walked Mack to school this morning.

On the way home Chewie was doing his business in the yard below when right next to us the sprinklers started.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-502

We both got wet and ran away into the street. Needless to say, I didn’t bother to pick up his poop which was getting well-watered. Grrrr.

Once home I made breakfast.

(breakfast hash of 2 scrambled eggs, turkey kielbasa, spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, and butternut squash, blueberries, strawberries)

After breakfast I dropped Cal off at the bus stop and headed to the gym for Bodypump.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-2

After Bodypump, I showered at the gym and then went straight to The Dali Museum to meet up with Mack’s class for a fieldtrip.

I got there before the school bus, so I wandered around taking pictures. It was still kind of foggy downtown at 10:00 a.m.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-4

They removed the giant mustachio from the courtyard in front of the museum.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-5

They still have the wishing tree, where people tie their wristbands after leaving the museum.

I just love the views of the St. Pete waterfront from The Dali.

The amazing helical staircase, first from the ground floor and then from the third floor:

I wandered around the gift shop for a few minutes.

My favorite of the Dali masterworks…The Hallucinogenic Toreador:

Pretty soon the kiddos arrived.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-17

They were in awe just from the building, which is pretty awe-inspiring.

I couldn’t take pictures inside the galleries, but the kids were so wonderful. We had a fabulous docent and the kids really paid attention and asked insightful questions. They had great observations. Mack kept saying how amazing it all was.

Afterwards we all went outside so that the kids could tie their wristbands onto the wishing tree.

Thanks for arranging this awesome fieldtrip Mrs. G!

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-23

Once the kids were back on the bus I went home and made lunch.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-24

(Romaine and spinach salad with turkey meatballs from the freezer, beets, avocado, bell pepper, an egg, and Garlic Gold vinaigrette)

Mack had a friend over to play after school and I don’t know what we did all afternoon. I have been doing laundry and cleaning house (the realtor is coming over on Thursday), but I didn’t take pictures of my housework. The next photo I have is of dinner.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-25

That’s a pork chop, green beans, and sweet potato.

After dinner I went back downtown for Run & Restore. First up was a 2 mile run.

Of course I did a run/walk, but I tried to keep my average pace under 14 minutes/mile. No hip pain! It’s like a miracle!

Next up was Restore the Core, which is a Pilates-based core workout.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-30

After Restore the Core, while still sweaty, I drove a couple of blocks to meet up with some friends who were having a get together at Bella Brava.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-33

It was a Moms Club reunion of ladies who used to be part of my Moms Club group back when the boys were little.

My Facinating Life Caroline Calcote-32

It was fun chatting with them for a little bit, pretty much universally lamenting how much all the kids have grown and all the pre-adolescent drama we are now dealing with. Thanks for organizing the reunion Kelly!

After I got home Chad and I watched the latest episode of The Following. Anybody watching? Gruesome.

That’s all I have for Day 23. One week to go! Cya.
