What, I have to think of blog post titles again?

It seems so strange not to be typing, “Whole30, Day…”. Although I am basically continuing to eat the same way, I am definitely not extending my Whole30 to a Whole 60 or whatever. You just have to be so super diligent about every tiny thing while on the Whole30. I’m ready for a break from that.

What is as amazing to me as the fact that I actually managed to complete the Whole30 is the fact that I blogged every single day during it! I’m sensing a little blog hiatus coming on. Also, I’m beyond tired of taking photos of all my food. I think I might give that a break as well, but if I bother to take a picture I’ll probably post it. Apparently I was sick of it on Wednesday morning (the first day after my Whole30) because I can’t find a photo of my breakfast on that day. Who knows what I ate? I know that it was a Whole30 compliant breakfast, because the only thing different that I did on Wednesday was add a little whole milk to my coffee and a yogurt at lunch.

I honestly think that my tummy did not like the milk. It was grumbly all day and I kind of got a slight headache mid-day. I never thought I had any sort of dairy sensitivity. Also, I realized that I actually prefer coconut milk in my coffee to whole milk (or, I’m assuming, skim milk). I still didn’t add any sweetener, and I missed that hint of coconut. I think I’ll be sticking with coconut milk in my coffee when it’s available, which is basically when I’m at home.

I know that on Wednesday I drove Mack to school because I also had to drive Cal to school early for robotics. I actually didn’t take many photos at all on Wednesday because I spent most of the day at home doing mundane things. I did take a few food photos, apparently.

That’s lettuce/spinach/arugula, mushrooms, smoked salmon, bell pepper, and a not so great dressing I made with avocado cream, homemade paleo mayo, and balsamic vinegar. Can’t wait until my new Garlic Gold vinaigrettes arrive.

I also had a Chobani coffee/dark chocolate chip yogurt bite after lunch.

It was delicious. Maybe I will reincorporate yogurt into my diet, but not milk or cheese. We’ll see.

The only exercise I got on Wednesday was the family evening walk (1.6 miles). I can’t remember why I didn’t go to Bodypump, but it was probably just laziness.

Wednesday night I participated in the second Mom Power Team #GetFitChat on Twitter. It was so fun and once again we had the #1 trending hashtag that hour!


Thursday (yesterday) was busier and I took more pictures. We walked to school.

Chad was going to drop Cal off at the bus stop on his way to work because as soon as I got home from walking I had to take off for the lab to have blood drawn.

After the gym I ran home and showered and then went to Mack’s school for his gifted parent/student conference.

After the conference I went home and put on some make up then headed to Panera to meet Chad and our realtor friend for a little lunch pow-wow.

Other than the gorgonzola, sugar in the bacon, and possible suspect ingredients in the vinaigrette and seasoning on the chicken, it would have been Whole30 compliant. It sure is hard to turn off that Whole30 brain! But I ate it without any special requests and felt liberated eating the gorgonzola. It didn’t have very much gorgonzola in it anyway, but it was delicious!

We talked about the marketing plan for our house and a bunch of other things related to the process of selling our house and finding a new one. Our realtor friend gave us a list of ten houses to drive by, so I spent the next hour driving around to all of them before I had to pick Mack up from school.

The afternoon was spent doing laundry, taking Mack to karate, picking Cal up, then heading to Cal’s school for the monthly MANDATORY PTSA (like PTA with an S) meeting. I am not a fan of these meetings.

You must go to either the SAC (School Advisory Council) meeting or the PTSA meeting every month. You can only miss one month out of the whole year. We had to miss December because we were out of town…

This salad is so delicious. They make all of their dressings and sauces in-house. I didn’t even care that I had restaurant salads with chicken for both lunch and dinner. I did add half of an avocado to the salad to bulk it up a little more.

Chad had pool league last night and I wasted the evening watching The Carrie Diaries on Tivo. I was curious about the show, which is sort of a prequel about the Carrie Bradshaw character from Sex and the City. It is typical CW Network teenage vapidity. I probably won’t keep watching it. I should have watched a couple episodes of Parenthood instead, but I wanted to at least check out The Carrie Diaries. My curiosity has been satisfied.

That’s it for the past two days. Now I’m thinking that I’m not really going to follow the Whole30 reintroduction plan. I just don’t really want to reintroduce grains and beans at the moment. I think I’ll just let them be reintroduced when they come up naturally and we’ll see what, if any, affect they have on me. I will definitely be limiting dairy to just small amounts, like gorgonzola in a salad or the occasional yogurt. At least that’s the plan.


Whole30, Day 9

I have to admit that I had a tiny bit of hip pain this morning. It felt totally fine during and after my short run/walk yesterday, but after the family evening walk last night it ached a little and this morning it is slightly painful. I’m not limping or anything, but it’s that old familiar feeling. I know if I tried to run again today that it would probably hurt. I’m not going to push it and I’m still hopeful that the Whole30 might make a difference.

I definitely feel like I’m over the hump now. I feel great. I have lots of energy, no headache or anything, and for some reason I feel like I’m suddenly being more productive. Whole30 or not, I’ll take it.

This morning we walked Mack to school, as per usual.

Last night Cal started saying that he didn’t feel well, and this morning he still felt nauseous so he stayed home from school. He spent most of the day building robots.

Of course that meant that whatever plans I had for the day kind of went out the window. I can’t even really remember what I did all day because I didn’t take photos. I know I made a great lunch.

I spent part of the afternoon getting dinner ready ahead of time so that all I would have to do was reheat it later. I made an Asian chicken/veggie/noodle thing for the boys and for myself I made some salmon patties.

I just mixed canned salmon, a little onion, one egg, salt, pepper, Frank’s hot sauce, and some coconut flour together. They held together, but just barely. Next time I’ll use less coconut flour. I’m still learning how to use it. It absorbs liquid like crazy.

I also roasted a bunch of veggies to have with my salmon patties later.

I brushed the pan and the tops of the veggies with a little olive oil and sprinkled them with my favorite multi-purpose seasoning. I’m so glad that Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Salt is Whole30 compliant.

I wanted to get dinner made ahead because Cal had a haircut appoint at 5:30 and I knew that we’d be in a huge rush for dinner afterwards as I needed to be downtown as close to 6:30 as possible.

Luckily Cal was feeling better by the afternoon so we were able to make his haircut appointment.

Not a huge difference, but believe me, it is so much better. Now he doesn’t have to hold his hair to the side while he eats.

After I ate and changed clothes I hurried downtown to Fit2Run where they were supposed to be having a “Runners Appreciation Night”. I thought some of my friends would be there, but when I got there it was dead. Totally. I was late and the people who had shown up had left to run a 5K and apparently the “appreciation” was going to be after that. Oh well. I just went ahead and headed over to Run & Restore a few blocks away, also downtown.

Run & Restore is a half hour of running (or walking) and then a half hour Restore the Core class with Christie of Karna Fitness. My hip was still hurting, only a little, so I just walked a mile and a half in that first half hour. It was a gorgeous evening for a waterfront walk.

There were hundreds of people on the waterfront walking, running, biking, and I also saw several fitness classes going on in the parks. Awesome.

After I got home Chad and I watched an episode of Vegas. Anybody else watching this show? We’ve watched about three episodes and are liking it. It reminds me of the show Magic City. Both are set in the rat pack era and are about the early days of big tourist development. Magic City is about Miami instead of Vegas. Both involve organized crime.
